You're in! You will receive the new Vibe Bites on Friday...
Here is last Friday's:
Hi,
I'm rereading a classic at the moment...
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
It's one incredible book... have you read it?
I love this quote:
“The secret of life, though, is to fall
seven times and to get up eight times.”
Here's why...
Some days just aren’t going to be our days.
I had one such day this week!
Everything that could have gone wrong delivering a virtual programme... DID!!!
The wifi kept dropping out. The software I use refused to work at the start of the day... then kept crashing when I got it working.
My screen froze a couple of times too and then I knocked a full glass of water over, soaking my keyboard!!!
Day's like these are painful. There are not fun. It's not we want.
But (and it's a big BUT) we need these bad days just as much as the great days.
Let me explain...
Because a screw-up, a failure and set back gives us something incredible in return: a lesson.
An undeniable truth is we learn the most from our failures.
It is through our failures that we become humble, adaptable, and more competent which leads to a greater confidence in ourselves
So, let me leave you with this message...
Even on your worst days, as long as you learn from it, you are still progressing.
You are on the right track.
And by getting back up on your feet you have shown that those blows you took, did not beat you - in fact it only made you stronger.
To use an old phrase:
Sometimes you have to roll with the punches...
Now, as it is Friday (again!):
In my work as a mindset coach and science geek, I come across profound pieces of research on how our behaviour is influenced by our thinking, social and physical environments.
Every Friday, I share the articles and books that have made me think in the last week. I call it;
Below are this weeks Vibe Bites... I hope you enjoy them!
[1] Yes, the Pandemic Is Ruining Your Body
In case you haven’t unplugged recently, here's how endless screen time and other quarantine habits are messing with your body.
You might be turning into a stiff, hunched-over, itchy, sore, headachy husk.
[2] Time Confetti and the Broken Promise of Leisure
Emails, texts, and social media aren’t just eating 10% of our free time. They’re fragmenting it into tiny pieces of “time confetti” that we can't enjoy.
A simple solution is blocking out uninterrupted time for leisure, just like for deep work.
[3] What will you do with your 1000 hours
I know everyone feels busy and like they don’t have enough time to tackle those big goals. But take an honest look at how you spend your time.
When you understand how much time might reasonably be available, you can make smarter resolutions that stand a greater chance of happening.
[4] How to thrive when everything feels terrible.
This article introduces 6 strategies one can implement to create a Thriving Mindset.
The two that I found most intriguing were watching what you say out loud (a negative thought said out-loud is 10x more harmful) and adopting a neutral mindset around adversity.
That's it for this week my friend.
Stay sane. Stay safe. Say connected.
Much love,
Colin
